Hefner Bunny Pie Wins 2009 Mobile Urban Adventure Race!

This past weekend we traveled to Mobile, AL for the first race of the season in the 2009 Gulf Coat Adventure Racing sprint series. A few weeks prior I decided to take a much needed break from running in order to give my ankle a chance to properly heal (see the Eco-Lonestar race reports to find out why) before I attempt the Mission AR in Kentucky next month as a soloist...yeah, I'm a little nervous about that! In addition, I'm pretty sure I've made it well known to everyone that I'm not a big fan of the urban sprint races, so my ankle gave me a perfectly legitimate excuse not to race. So, I was merely the groups photographer for this race.

Lori raced with her usual teammates (Matt & Paul) as team Hefner Bunny Pie (HBP). Damon and Scarlett raced with Nathan (a friend from college) as team Light & Momentary Troubles (LMT). Moe was racing as member of the newly formed team Never Back Down. I spent the morning frantically biking around the race course in attempt to take at least one good picture...I had a great time!

After a couple of hours of passing each other up repeatedly, HBP passed team Bike Zone one last time on the USS Alabama Battleship before sprinting to the finish line and taking home their first overall and coed victory! Congratulations HBP!

Here's some of the pictures I took:

Nice shirt Scarlett!

Ouch!

Hmmm?

"I heard that!" said Matt. Oooh Paul?!!

"Woohoo! we're gonna win!"

Nice try Stephanie!

Photo finish!

Much better!

Lori is an Ironman (half)!

I had a great time this past weekend cheering on Lori while she attempted and completed her first Ironman 70.3 in New Orleans. Congratulations Lori! Here's my very brief analysis of her race...great swim...pretty good bike (considering the brutal winds)...cramping run! It was truly inspiring to witness Lori and a couple thousand others (including Paul...congrats to you too!) in their quest...however, not inspiring enough to make me want to attempt it myself! I'll stick to adventure racing! Here's some pics from the day:
